What British Gas needs
A meter reading can be shared later. A copy of the death certificate is only needed in some cases.
Good to know
Can transfer to surviving occupant; phone listed on britishgas.co.uk/help-and-support/probate
Before you change any payments
Don't cancel the direct debit before you notify them. Suppliers normally take a final reading and settle the account themselves, and cancelling early can leave the energy or water supply unbilled and in arrears.
Don't want to do this alone?
Notifying companies one by one takes weeks. Alenity can notify British Gas and all the others for you, drafting the messages, sending them, and handling the replies.
