Before you call, what to have ready

Royal Bank of Scotland will tell you if they need any documents. Having these to hand helps them find the account.

• The deceased's full name, date of birth and last address
• The date of death
• Account, policy or reference numbers if you can find them (old statements or emails)
• Your relationship to the deceased and your own contact details
• A rough estimate of the account balance
• Somewhere to note any reference number they give you

What happens next

Royal Bank of Scotland say to expect a reply within 5-10 working days. If you have not heard back by then, get in touch again with your reference.
