Build my checklistBefore you call, what to have ready
Nationwide must see the death certificate but you do not need it to notify them. Upload a photo or scan online or bring it into a branch; there is no need to post copies.
- The deceased's full name, date of birth and last address
- The date of death
- Account, policy or reference numbers if you can find them (old statements or emails)
- Your relationship to the deceased and your own contact details
- A rough estimate of the account balance
- Somewhere to note any reference number they give you
What happens next
Nationwide Building Society does not publish a response time. Keep a note of when you got in touch and any reference they give you, so you can follow up if needed.
