Nationwide must see the death certificate but you do not need it to notify them. Upload a photo or scan online or bring it into a branch; there is no need to post copies.

About the Death Notification Service

The Death Notification Service (DNS) lets you notify many UK banks and building societies in a single submission. Check the DNS list of member organisations before contacting Nationwide Building Society separately.

Before you change any payments

Don't cancel direct debits before you notify them. The bank will freeze and review payments as part of the bereavement process, and cancelling early can leave insurance or utilities unpaid.

Don't want to do this alone?

Notifying companies one by one takes weeks. Alenity can notify Nationwide Building Society and all the others for you, drafting the messages, sending them, and handling the replies.
